The European Commission is investigating the technology giant, Apple, after it violated EU rules on digital platforms. According to the investigation in question, the company is preventing competition from producing applications and selling products through external links. In the investigation, it is said that Apple asks them for numerous fees, which also harm consumers.
"Consumers should be able to use apps, including music or dating, at the best prices and know where to buy them. At the moment, Apple is preventing app makers from finding alternative channels," said Vanessa Turner, competition law expert at the European Commission.
Apple, on the other hand, can analyze the Council's conclusion and give an answer until March 2025. In case it turns out that the investigation is fair, the EU will follow up with fines against Apple.
The fines can go up to 10% of the entire annual revenue of the giant Apple, or daily payments, which coincide with 5% of the company's daily profits, according to Thomas Regnier, spokesman of the European Commission for the digital economy.
