Ilir Meta, the chairman of the Freedom Party and the former president of Albania, confirmed on June 20 that he and Monika Kryemadhi have started divorce proceedings. Ilir Meta, in a public statement, described Monika as his "ex-wife" and added that the case is being pursued through legal channels.
"Mrs. Monika Kryemadhi is already my ex-wife and today I followed the legal path for this matter. I also informed my son, Besar Ilir Meta", said the former president.
In April of this year, in an interview for "Opinon", Monika admitted that she and Iliri had a frozen relationship.
"My marital relationship with Meta is currently frozen due to the conflict in the party, of course within our family. I think that it is not the first time that Ilir Meta and I have these conflicts. We don't have these principled, moral conflicts between each other. Our conflicts are only political conflicts", she said, adding: "The greatest arrogance in both men and women is when they think that they can build their happiness and power by destroying the happiness and family of someone else. but that doesn't happen. Why doesn't it happen? It doesn't happen because the moral relationship is much more important than the financial relationship."
