Let's face it, most of us try to avoid the idea of ??throwing food away, and bread is one of them. If you can't include it in various dishes or recipes, it happens that the bread ends up in the trash, but beyond that there are people who put it in the freezer of the refrigerator to preserve it as long as possible.
But, experts say you shouldn't do this and there are several reasons:
- Freezers often resemble a chaotic mixture of meat, fish or vegetables. But, you know that some of these items contain harmful bacteria. When you give them a piece of bread, these bacteria will stick to it.
-Bacteria, yeast and mold in your bread can simply go dormant in cold temperatures. But as soon as you thaw the bread, they "reawaken" and start multiplying again. This means more chances of foodborne infections.
-Bread is not only endangered by bacteria, but also by aromas. The freezer can also be an aromatic chaos, from fish, garlic, ice cream or meat. If the bread is not packaged properly before freezing, it can absorb these odors. This not only ruins the taste, but can signal contamination from other ingredients found in the freezer.
-Another problem is the change in texture when you freeze the bread and then thaw it. Bread loses its dry interior or crust, turning into a liquid mass.
If you want to keep your bread fresh longer without using the refrigerator, there are other methods, from storing it in an airtight container or using the stovetop oven more often by heating it up to consume the bread fresh.
