Why is a 'battle' going on between Scarlett Johansson and OpenAI?

Scarlett Johansson has rejected an offer from OpenAI, whose leader has asked the actress to give the rights to her voice for use in the artificial intelligence system "Sky", which has already been released.

In a statement to Page Six, Scarlett Johansson has revealed that she was asked for this collaboration by Sam Altman in September 2023.

"He told me that he thought my voice was suitable for this system. According to him, sound would create a bridge between creativity and the technology company, because it would make users feel more comfortable, making the transition to artificial intelligence easier. He said that my voice is soothing to listen to," explained the actress.

Further, she confesses that after many discussions and for personal reasons, she decided to reject the offer that was made to her.

But when OpenAI gave a presentation of the new system last week, friends, relatives and fans of the actress noticed that the voice used was so similar to her own that many of them could not tell the difference. According to those who heard it, the voice of the "Sky" system is very similar to the voice of Scarlett Johansson in the movie "Her".

“When I heard the demo, I was shocked, outraged and in disbelief that Mr. Altman decided to choose a voice so similar to mine that even people who know me best couldn't tell the difference. He told me that the resemblance was not intentional," the well-known actress further explains.

According to Johansson, Altman asked him to reconsider the offer, but without receiving a response, he published the preliminary demo of the system.

The actress admits that she immediately took legal measures, sending two letters to the management of OpenAI, with her team, asking for a detailed explanation of the process before legal measures are taken.

After the letters, Altman removed the "Sky" system from circulation. Meanwhile, the case is still under investigation.
