The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office condemned the shocking video of Diddy raping his ex-partner, Cassie, but is still unable to file charges and convict the rapper. Through a statement published on social networks, the prosecution made it known that due to the limitations of the law in the country, it is impossible to accuse Diddy.
"We are aware of the video that has been circulating on the Internet, in which Sean "Diddy" Combs is shown assaulting a young woman in Los Angeles," the statement begins, referring to Cassie. "We find the images extremely disturbing and difficult to watch," the post continued, adding that unfortunately, authorities cannot charge Diddy as the evidence has passed the time limit in which police can act and the prosecution convicts a person.

According to legal experts, the statute of limitations for such assaults in California is 1-3 years, and the video was shot in 2016. The office said in a statement that no case has yet been filed in connection with the violent attack, but encouraged "anyone who has been a victim or witness of a crime, to report it".

As expected, people in the posts were not at all happy with the decision and the statement: "This is how people like Diddy get away with crimes and it's because people like him are encouraged to stay above the law," one wrote. "It's time to update the statute of limitations. There is no reason why a victim should not be allowed to report such crimes, as she escapes from her abuser." Another commenter blamed the hotel, writing: “The hotel had this video and never reported it to the police or called the authorities. Cassie absolutely deserves justice and the hotel's insurance should be in trouble."

Although Diddy has not been criminally charged with assaulting Cassie, she filed a civil suit against him in 2023, accusing the rapper of rape, physical assault and prostitution during their 10-year relationship. The matter was quickly resolved for unclear reasons. The rapper's lawyers denied the allegations, calling Cassie's claims "offensive and outrageous."

The video in question was released on March 5, 2016, and the video shows Sean "Diddy" Combs raping his then-partner, Cassie Ventura. The multi-camera footage was taken from the security cameras of a (now closed) hotel in Los Angeles.
In the video, Diddy is seen leaving the hotel room to head to the elevators with a towel tied around his waist, in pursuit of Ventura. He grabs her by the neck and slams her to the ground. He then comes back to kick him several times in a row.

After picking up her bag and suitcase from the ground, the musician turns to hit her again as Ventura lies unresponsive. Then, he drags his ex-girlfriend to a hotel room. The situation becomes even more dire when Diddy is seen in the reflection of a mirror hitting him with several other objects.

Diddy reacted through a video published on social networks, where he said:
"It is very difficult for me to reflect on one of the darkest periods of my life. But I have to do it. I was very heavy then. I mean I hit rock bottom, but I don't want to make excuses. My behavior in that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video."
Further, he stated that he felt disgust:
"I'm disgusted, I felt that way then, I feel the same way now. I sought professional help. I started therapy, I also went to rehabilitation, because I had to ask God to forgive me, I needed mercy".
