If you're one of those people who's braving the idea of ??wearing something tighter to the next special occasion, or just getting ready for the weekend at the beach, you've probably turned to Google to find out how you can lose a few pounds fast. And the internet is full of such ideas.
But do these diets that are promoted really exist? And most importantly: Are they the right choice?
"In reality, these types of diets are never precise, nor structured. They are 'do-it-yourself' diets that do more harm than good to achieve your goals," emphasizes Dr. Chiara Boscaro, biologist and nutritionist in Milan.
In very strict diets, any kilos you lose will be gained back very quickly, experts say. But their biggest problem is the direct consequences they have on health, in the long term.
"The classic effect of drastic diets is the stress they cause to the cardiovascular system. Exposure to hypertension, or the increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. There is also a high probability of the risk of chronic inflammation in the body," declares Dr. Boscaro.
But if you are going to lose weight drastically, the only thing that can reduce 2-3 kg in record time is the removal of excess water from the body, bloating and the feeling of swelling. To achieve this, you need to hydrate (2 liters of water a day), chew slowly and drink herbal teas in order to lose excess weight from bloating.
Avoid sweets and carbohydrates as much as possible and eat protein and vegetables.
