The perception of age has changed a lot over the years. This is confirmed by a study carried out at the University of Berlin and published in "Psychology and Aging". According to him, evidence has been found that the third age is currently calculated differently. Those who used to be called old people are no longer included in this category unless they are close to 74.
14,056 people born from 1911 to 1974 participated in the study. They were asked when they were 25 years old, then when they were 40 to 100 years old (for those who reached that age).
One of the questions addressed to them is: At what age do you consider someone to be old or part of the third age?
People who were born in 1911 considered themselves old at the age of 71. While those born later considered him at the age of 74. Also, as time goes by, everyone considers their age higher when they are called old as a way to feel better about themselves.
Women, according to the study, do this more than men and their aging age is two years higher than that of men. In conclusion, this study shows that people are fighting old age by convincing themselves that aging starts late, as it is an unwanted condition.
