Fish is a high-quality protein, but still people do not consume it in large quantities. The American Heart Association actually recommends that seafood should be consumed at least twice a week.
But do you know what is the best type of fish to eat in the multitude of seafood? The answer is: sardines! Canned sardines are packed with omega-3 fatty acids, a type of fat that helps reduce inflammation and a host of other effects from reducing the risk of depression, heart disease, stroke, and more. So sardines have more nutrients than salmon or even many other types of fish.
They are also packed with calcium, as they are an important source of vitamin D, which helps with calcium absorption.
A 2021 study published in the journal "Clinical Nutrition" found that people who are most at risk of developing type 2 diabetes were less likely to develop it if they consumed sardines at least twice a week. The same formula applies to individuals who are prone to heart disease.
Note: Despite the nutritional value of sardines, their flavor may not be very acceptable. Therefore, lemon or spices can help soften it.
