The Oscar winner has spoken without gloves about one of the most difficult episodes in her career as an actress. Anne Hathaway recalls that many years ago she had to kiss 10 different men to win a role in a movie.
"This happened to me in 2000, and back then it was normal to ask other people to kiss on the lips to test chemistry," the actress told V Magazine. A "chemistry test" is a common practice between two people who they would go on camera and try a kiss on the lips during the audition rounds, but for Anne this test is actually the worst way to try it.
"They told me 'we have 10 guys coming today and you are in the cast. Aren't you excited to kiss them all?” And I thought, "Is there something wrong with me?", because I wasn't excited. I found it disgusting," continues the actress.
The actress admits that she was aware that if she did not accept this ordeal she would lose everything. "So I pretended to be excited and carried on," Hathaway points out.
The star of "Idea of ??you" pointed out where it was not a literal case of exploitation, but a norm for the standard of Hollywood in those years. A norm that had to be challenged. "It was not a power play. No one was trying to hurt me. It was just a very different time and I know this well," the famous actress emphasizes.
Anne does not mention the title of the film or the names of the people she had to kiss for this role, but admits that it was a challenging act for herself, but not for the standards of the world of cinematography at the time.
