Holidays are usually important events that bring families or generations together. Everyone is happy, talking, exchanging ideas, while the attention at the table is taken by the older ones, in the name of respect for them, but also for their age.
But, for grandparents to create an environment where grandchildren feel comfortable, for them to come back again, grandparents must know what they are talking about and how to behave. "But by inadvertently wanting to give advice, grandparents create an uncomfortable environment," says Ann-Louise Lockhart, psychologist.
Here are six phrases grandparents should never say to their grandchildren to avoid making them feel bad or uncomfortable.
#1 "Don't tell your parents about..."
#2 “You've changed so much. Have you gained weight?”
#3 "Wow, you ate more than I did!"
#4 "You're so spoiled"
#5 "Come here and give me a hug or a kiss!"
#6 “Your parents are wrong about…”
