The body of Amanda Richmond Rogers, 45, was found in the North Fork Eagle River in Alaska. She tried to save her dog, which accidentally fell into the icy river in Anchorage, Alaska.
Amanda and her husband, Dr. Brian Rogers, went by the river to celebrate their 18th wedding anniversary on December 23, 2023. During the walk, one of their puppies, Groot, fell into the icy river and Amanda didn't think twice, but plunged in. to find and save Groot.
Her body was found on March 24, cuddled with the puppy. Her sister, Jennifer Richmond, revealed that Amanda had Groot in her arms like she used to and added that Amanda "passed away like a true heroine".
"The body was found by a bystander," Anchorage Police Department spokeswoman Reene Oistad said. Experts examined the body and the identity of the deceased was confirmed.
"Amanda loved dogs, almost as much as our children. They were our family", said her husband, Dr. Brian.
He said Amanda didn't jump into the icy river "to just save a dog, but to save a family member."
Amanda was the mother of four children, Leif Thurmond, Liam, August and Bodhi Rogers.
