You may be one of those lucky people who are very passionate about their work, but somehow your boss or superior is making it very difficult to keep up your pace and be a creative person. We understand how challenging it is, it even affects your motivation and mood, so through this article we will help you how you can cope with such a situation.
Let's emphasize the fact that the way the boss manages the work has nothing to do with you, but with experience, education, the way he/she sees fit to act. In some cases, it may even be projecting the world and her inner feelings. If the boss has just taken this position, he/she may feel anxious, or think that by micro-managing the team, he/she will get better results. In this scenario, either tell her you work better when you're not being checked every second, or be patient until she realizes on her own that her way is wrong.
But the person in charge may also think that this is how they support the team, by encouraging employees to have more creative ideas, or to motivate them. However, we remind you that whatever his/her problem may be, it cannot affect you. If you are an empathetic person and will have a different perspective on the situation, consider different things, starting from the boss's feelings to the anxiety he may feel before a new project. If it has come to the tip of your nose, you have to have a difficult conversation, which may also include high tones.
Address the problem, set boundaries, and move on. You can start the conversation with a few sentences like: "I feel that you don't have enough faith in me and the responsibilities that I have in this profession, when you put me under such pressure and micro-manage me all the time. I know the importance of the project and my work, so I'm doing my best. I don't feel good when it stands over my head and creates panic and the feeling that I am an incompetent person and need management all the time".
But you can also have another approach, which includes curiosity and an honest question: "I'd like to know if this approach has a better result?", or "I've noticed how often I suggest something new, they don't stick to you as an idea. Can you give me a clear response, so that I know what to suggest next?". In this way, I place the responsibility on the boss, who will understand that she is unclear with you.
Mind you, this is not a personal attack. You can learn from his/her behaviors to build a more lasting relationship with him/her.
If you really don't want to leave your workplace and you like what you do, try to avoid too much contact with your boss. In a situation where it just becomes too much to handle, go to the Human Resources department, express your problems, and if nothing changes, start sending CVs elsewhere, in the same position and profession.
