Turkey has decided on our NATO membership, says Finland
Finland's President Sauli Niinisto said he expects his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to tell him whether Turkey is approving the Nordic country's application for NATO membership when the two meet in Ankara this week.
"It was known that once President Erdogan had made his decision regarding the ratification of Finland's NATO membership, he would want to meet and fulfill his promise," Niinisto told Reuters on Wednesday.
The news came after Sweden's prime minister, Ulf Kristersson, said during a visit to Berlin that he hoped his country's NATO membership would be ratified by Turkey shortly after general elections scheduled for May. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz told reporters that the admission of Sweden and Finland to the military alliance was critical "for our security".
