Emma Stone has responded to criticism that "Poor Things" is a "sexist" and "exploitative" film. The film, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, is based on the novel of the same title, by the author Alasadir Gray.
Two words about the film: The film tells the story of Bella Baxter (Emma Stone), who is the product of an experiment by the scientist Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe), who has transplanted the baby's brain into the mother's body, which had committed suicide.
Bella, explores the world with the body of a woman, but with the thoughts and development of a baby. She develops quickly and discovers the world and her sexual desires. Based on this, the film has received some criticism. "Poor Things" has been criticized for erotic scenes, as Bella has the brain of a child.
But Emma Stone said: "If it helps, as the person who was in the role of the actress and the producer, I didn't see any children in those scenes." She added: "Mine has a saying about starting relationships: 'Oh, we were so in love that we finished each other's sentences.' And then, time passes and the expression becomes: "You always interrupt me". This is also the relationship with films, especially with a film like this, because more questions are asked and no answers are offered", she explained.
While Lanthimos himself said: "If you take the film in the first sense and discuss the brain of a child, then you are missing the meaning of the narrative. If you're analyzing the movie as an event that might happen, then of course the movie doesn't work."
