Applying oil to the hair is an ancient method, which is said to have been used since ancient Egypt to soften and perfume the hair and scalp.
The legacy of this method continues even today, with confirmed effects that reach anti-bacterial action from the mixture of vegetable and essential oils.
The first include: argan, olive, castor, almond and seed oil. As for the essentials, we suggest: rosemary, peppermint, lavender and tea tree oil. But, it is very important that any oil you will use has processing and is for cosmetics, otherwise the damage can become irreparable.
Trichologist Silvia Cecchinato points out to Cosmoplitan.it that if you start using oils, no one should expect to see miracles like those advertised online.
"Hair grows if there is a genetic predisposition to it and if there are no follicular problems. The oil helps in regeneration and hair loss, but even at this point, the studies that have been done are not completely clear," says Silvia.
"Applying oil to the hair is not a practice that should be followed by everyone," she further explains.
"In fact, mixing oils the wrong way can irritate the skin. However, when you decide to apply it, it should only be used once a week, it should not be kept for more than 4 hours and the application should be done on dry hair before washing", advises Cecchinato.
