Elon Musk has revealed that Neuralink has implanted the chip in a human brain for the first time. He took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the news that an unidentified patient is doing well after having the procedure.
"Preliminary results show a promising level of neural movement recognition," Musk said of the company he owns and founded in 2016. He did not provide any additional information about the patient or the application of the method of performing the procedure.
The chip has dozens of tiny electrodes that are implanted in the brain and receive power from electrical signals from neurons, the Wall Street Journal reports. As Reuters reports, this chip is placed in the area of ??the brain that controls movement.
Musk revealed on Monday that very soon the company in question owned by the billionaire will launch the first product that will be called Telepathy. Earlier, Elon said that the brain implant made by Neuralink will be called Link, but it is not yet known if it is the same product.
"The first to try it will be those people who have lost the use of their limbs," Musk said.
In 2022, the billionaire admitted that he himself will try implanting the chip. In May 2023, Neuralink received approval from the Food and Drug Administration for a human study and began recruiting in September.
