For those who don't have pets, the pain and experience of it may be unimaginable, but for people who just come home to their puppy's bright eyes and wagging tail, it's understandable.
Pets are a very important part of our lives and the moment they enter our home, it's hard to accept everyday life without them. It's safe to say that losing a four-legged friend is a dog owner's biggest fear, since for many people, a puppy is a child, a sibling, or a close friend.
Dogs in particular live an average of 13 years and that is enough time to be considered members of the household. They, with their caresses and stubbornness, make the day more beautiful and create a routine in people's lives, therefore, the loss of an animal can be a traumatic experience that creates a void in people's lives and persons.
As human beings, we project our desires, thoughts, and feelings onto our four-legged friends, see ourselves in them, talk to them, and even though they don't understand us, they comfort us or rejoice with us.
Four-legged friends love you unconditionally and are always grateful for people. On the other hand, they teach people a sense of responsibility, patience, discipline, politeness and adapt them to routine. Most importantly, the unconditional love between a cute creature who lives with you and the human who surrenders to this 4-legged creature that sheds hair everywhere.
For many people, the loss of animals can be as painful as the loss of a friend or relative. According to an article published in "Society & Animals" (2022), many studies and people indicated that losing an animal is equivalent to losing a dear person.
Another aspect that must be discussed, because clearly, it has been forgotten: Everyone experiences pain differently! Grief has no definite shape, duration, or limit. Everyone experiences pain differently and its levels depend on many factors: the personality of the person, the experience with the animal, the way the animal died, the relationship with the four-legged friend, the age and character of the puppy, etc. Often, people who live alone experience the loss of a puppy more than people who live in large families.
