You may have a wide circle of friends, colleagues with whom you discuss, send messages at dinners, exchange ideas and debate on various issues, but in the end you realize that the person you get along with best is yourself. "Is it normal to talk to myself?" may be one of your questions.
We have good news. "It's normal," says Craig Kain, a psychologist and psychotherapist. "Talking to yourself is something most people do." While we may talk to ourselves often, there are many people who feel abnormal about it because it's not something we discuss often.
The truth is, it's common for people to talk to themselves throughout the day, but sometimes that self-talk gets stuck in their head. Three more reasons why it's perfectly normal to talk to yourself:
1. It helps with emotions
Self-talk can be soothing. You speak slower than you think, so when you're talking to yourself, it slows you down and is helpful when you start to feel dizzy or panic.
2. Encourage yourself
Talking to yourself can be a good way to encourage yourself. Kind words to yourself can have a similar effect.
3. Fix things in your head
Do you want to remember the name of the person you met in a beautiful moment of your life? Talk to yourself about it. Hearing yourself speak can help you retain information.
