Based on the tragic case of a 41-year-old woman, who killed herself due to denigration on social networks, the speaker of the Assembly, Lindita Nikolla, announced that the toughening of the legislation on social networks will be considered as a priority.
"A mother of four children sacrificed herself because of denigration on social media," Nikolla writes. "This tragic event should serve as a powerful appeal to society and institutions."
"The Assembly will immediately reconsider, with priority, the tightening of legislation for online media and the Criminal Code, especially the provisions related to cybercrime, attacks, insults and aggressiveness in social networks."
"Law enforcement agencies must react faster, with more force and efficiency to prevent such cases, which happen before the eyes of the whole society and cause tragic events and family trauma," she adds.
Bedrie Loka, mother of four children, ended her life in the village of Sukth in Durrës by drinking phostoxin. The reason for the fatal end of the 41-year-old, according to family members, but also the reaction of the Durrës police, was the publication of several montage videos on TikTok, with the deceased's photo and derogatory language and hatred towards her.
The prosecutor's office has started investigations to clarify this case, while the civil society has announced holding a protest today (January 6).
