Some TikTok users have postponed the practice of washing their hair just once a month. They've called this "hair training," claiming that progressively increasing the time between each wash will make your hair look better.
The hashtag #hairtraining has already received over 164.3 million views, with many videos showing users of the platform going weeks without washing their hair.
@kaitmoritz I went 18 days without washing my hair! My secrets to hair training are brushing and oiling your hair daily, Redken dry shampoo, and crimping your hair so it looks less oily. #GetCrackin #hairtraining #hairwashday #hairtrainingtips #hairtraining101 #hairwashingroutine #hairwashing #hairwashroutine #hairtok ? original sound - Kait
But is this practice actually supported by any scientific evidence? Well, there are some risks.
If you don't put a scarf or hat on your head regularly, every day things like dirt, dust, insects and various pollutants will fall on your head. Every day, the scalp produces oil, sebum and other particles as well. All this can lead to irritation, itching and inflammation of the skin.
But on the other hand, washing your hair too much with various chemicals in shampoo can dry out your hair too much, so your scalp can increase the production of natural oils.
Of course, the frequency of washing is specific for different people.
The frequency of hair washing is not the only factor that affects the health of the hair and scalp. The type of shampoo, conditioner and their ingredients can play a big role. Washing your hair regularly helps distribute the oil more evenly. Devices such as dryers or straighteners can damage the hair, so be careful: don't use them often.
Therefore, you should be careful and apply to your hair only what you really need.
So don't leave your hair for 30 days without washing it!
