TikTok is full of tips and tricks to get noticed. An example is the "red nail theory", which emphasizes the idea that this timeless shade is a means of attention in any time and place.
But what is the "red nail theory"?
The red nails theory emerged in early 2022 when PR expert Robyn Delmonte noticed the effect and wrote on TikTok: “I know guys are attracted to red nails and not just for the romantic approach. The association with colors begins in childhood, so for many men, this shade of nail polish reminds them of their mothers' nails."
The use of red in other situations, obviously on the lips or in clothing, is equally eye-catching.
How does this relate to the issue of self-confidence?
Red is often associated with love, romance and passion in many cultures. But experts say that the color of blood reminds you of vitality and energy and that all these connections can unconsciously affect individuals mentally.
"I think the red nail theory is a real thing because psychologically, we associate red with passion, love and power," says esthetician Mazz Hanna.
“This shade is seen as a form of self-expression; showing that you are not afraid to stand out and express yourself among others," says psychiatrist Anna Yusim. So, to put it another way: when individuals feel confident and comfortable in their own skin, it can make them more attractive to others, and red nail polish has that power.
