The founder of the well-known cosmetics brand Huda Beauty is facing calls for a boycott, but also praise, after declaring on social networks that she does not want "blood money" from Israeli customers.
A day after the Hamas attack against Israel on October 7, Huda Kattan celebrated her 40th birthday in Dubai and posted a photo on Instagram surrounded by balloons and roses.
"I don't know if you've noticed, but Israelis from all over the world love you and your products," someone commented, according to a screenshot provided by The Express Tribune. "You chose Gaza. So remember this no Israeli ever buys from you anywhere in the world. And it's a shame because we buy a lot. Gaza has no money to invest in your products because in my opinion, they like to invest in weapons."
In response, Kattan wrote: "I don't want blood money."
In another post, Huda openly expressed her support for Palestine, writing that "Israel, who has the fourth largest army in the world, is NOT the victim, but they repeat the same story and ignore anyone who comes with facts. "
Reactions have been mixed. Some are calling for a boycott of her products, while others have praised Huda and pledged to buy her products.
"Unlike many others, you chose to use your platform to fight for what is right, regardless of the impact it may have on your business," one wrote. "Something that a lot of people don't have the guts to do."
