In her upcoming memoir, The Woman in Me, Britney Spears reveals that when she was in a relationship with Justin Timberlake, she became pregnant with his child but miscarried because Justin didn't want to be a father. As soon as the story hit the media, people started checking Britney's old songs for details about the miscarriage.
She revealed that she had an abortion in late 2000, when she was 18 or 19, and that the procedure was "one of the most painful things" she had ever experienced. A year after the breakup, Britney released the album "In the Zone" which included the ballad "Everytime".
Some people are now analyzing the lyrics and believe it could be a reference to the abortion – they consider the song to be a way of apologizing to the child rather than a lament for the end of her relationship with Timberlake.
The chorus of the song: “And every time I see you in my dreams, I see your face, you're haunting me. I think I need you, baby," is now being interpreted in a new way.
Even in one part of the video, there are details related to abortion. The video clip shows Britney being chased by paparazzi and fans and then getting punched in the head. She is placed in a hotel room, put in the toilet and is seen losing consciousness after bleeding and then drowning.
The video then has scenes showing Britney being transported in an ambulance, being revived by doctors in a hospital bed; while the ghost sees the whole situation. Britney's ghost then enters the next hospital room, where a baby girl is being born - possibly referring to the situation the singer would have been in if she had given birth.
The narrative arc of the video seems to relate to one life ending as another begins.
As if the song wasn't enough, people have also analyzed Britney's performances. in one of them, she touches her stomach while singing "Everytime".
