Netflix is ??developing a TV series about former US President John F. Kennedy, Variety has learned. According to sources, the series will compete convincingly with "The Crown" on Netflix, which focused on the life of Queen Elizabeth II, from her ascension to the throne after the death of her father, King George VI, to a more intimate portrait of her, facing the sister's forbidden love to Lady Diana's introduction to the family.
Oscar winner Eric Roth, who wrote the films "Dune" and "Forrest Gump" will write the screenplay, as well as executive produce the upcoming Kennedy series.
It is said to be based on the biographical book about former President Kennedy entitled "Coming of Age in the American Century, 1917-1956".
The novel reveals John F. Kennedy's early relationships, his experiences in World War II, his ideas, his writings, and most importantly his political goals. According to the author, Kennedy's aspirations took shape at a young age and were the opposite of the former president's father's desire, who wanted his son to be a protagonist in public life, but not in politics.
The author reveals details of Kennedy's life during the birth of the Cold War, showing for the first time his commitment as a young journalist in 1945 and his writings about the threat from an imperialist Russia and emphasizing knowledge of international relations especially after his education at Harvard.
As for the cast of actors who will perform in this series, concrete names are not yet known, but it is thought that Katie Holmes, who portrayed the First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in the 2011 short series "The Kennedys", and Martin Sheen, who played the role of John F. Kennedy, in the series of the same name in 1983 there may be two of them.
