Will Smith has finally broken his silence on his split from wife Jada Pinkett Smith, days after she made the shocking announcement that their marriage ended in 2016.
Pinkett Smith is currently promoting her memoir, Worthy, and has been sharing some bombshell statements lately — including the fact that the pair haven't lived together in years.
In an email to the New York Times, Will Smith admitted that her recent interviews "woke him up" and made him realize that she is "more resilient, smart and compassionate than [he] realized." He also admitted to being guilty of an "emotional blindness" to her "hidden nuances".
"When you've been with someone for more than half your life, a kind of emotional blindness sets in, and you can very easily lose sensitivity to their hidden nuances and subtle beauties." he said.
The couple married in 1997 and have since been seen as one of the strongest couples in Hollywood history; with two children, Jaden, 25, and Willow, 22.
Will Smith's words come days after his wife shocked fans when she revealed they had secretly split in 2016. Asked why the couple had kept the split a secret, Pinkett Smith said she just wasn't ready to go public. Plus, they were "still trying to figure out, among themselves, how to work in partnership."
Jada added that they love each other very much and that they will find what works for them. She clarified that they are divorced, just not with documents, but they live separate lives.
