As the most followed woman on Instagram, Selena Gomez knows all too well how tiresome and unforgiving the internet can be, especially since she and Justin ended their relationship in 2018. After the two broke up
after a decade in which they experienced an 'on & off' romance, the singer took a break from social media.

"I was just heartbroken. I didn't want to know what other people were doing," said the singer, adding: "Then, there were those moments when I didn't feel good about the way I looked, because of what I saw on Instagram. I thought: "Wow, I wish I had a body like that", referring to various posts on Instagram.

Gomez was also diagnosed with bipolar around this time. In a confessional with Miley Cyrus, she explained that she grew up trying to please others.
"From a young age I had responsibility, young people looked up to me. I didn't know who I was," Selena said, talking about her fame at a young age.
"I thought maybe it would be damaging to tell people who I am. It started to become threatening and panicked me," she emphasized.
Now, at the age of 30, she feels more confident, about herself and about her relationship with her fans. "I see Beyoncé and I'm amazed. Every part of her is perfect and she is so beautiful. I went to her shows and was blown away. I'm not like that and that's okay. I am myself, I like to be sexy and fun, but I also want to enjoy myself as long as I live", she concluded.
