Linda Evangelista has confessed that she has faced cancer twice and underwent a double mastectomy after her first breast cancer diagnosis five years ago.
The 58-year-old supermodel told the Wall Street Journal that breast cancer was discovered in 2018 during a mammogram.
She confessed that due to health factors, her condition was not good and without hesitation she chose double mastectomy. "I thought it was the best solution. Breast cancer wasn't going to kill me,” she said.
Double mastectomy (bilateral mastectomy) - removal of both breasts; surgery that is sometimes done to reduce the risk for women at very high risk of developing breast cancer.
Four years after the first operation, in July last year, she was diagnosed with pectoral muscle cancer, for which she underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Speaking ahead of the new Apple TV+ series The Super Models, which features interviews with Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Christy Turlington, Linda said her prognosis is now "good but not great". .
"I know I have one foot in the grave, but I'm totally in a celebratory mood," she said.
