When we travel, it happens that we face the nightmare of theft of valuables, especially if we visit areas overpopulated with tourists.
In frequented areas and popular tourist attractions, we must be especially vigilant in order not to fall victim to a thief. So where are you most likely to be at risk from pickpockets?
Travel insurance comparison experts at Quotezone.co.uk have published a report ranking European countries for pickpocket risk.
The company used traveler feedback to calculate the number of mentions of theft at each country's top tourist attractions.
The destination most likely to be pickpocketed was Italy, according to Quotezone's European Pickpocket Index. The most dangerous areas were: the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, the Duomo in Milan and the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.
France has the second highest number of pickpockets. All five attractions that Quotezone monitored were in the capital, Paris. The Netherlands ranked third in the pickpocketing index, while Germany and Greece ranked fourth and fifth.
Greg Wilson, founder and CEO of Quotezone.co.uk, stated, "Theft can happen anywhere and tourist hotspots are prime locations for criminals to steal people's wallets and purses while they are busy sightseeing."
