You don't even have to experience it or witness it to understand that giving birth to a child is one of the most painful experiences. And as a new mother has discovered on Reddit, some men can't even bear to be a witness in the delivery room.
A young mother's boyfriend told her he embarrassed her during labor because she screamed a lot. He asked her to calm down and even covered his face with his hands at one point, embarrassed.
Both mom and dad are in their 20s, so maybe the reaction is partly age dependent. However, this does not excuse his lack of sensitivity.
"I had a natural birth and [my boyfriend] was there the whole time," she wrote in the Reddit post. "I yelled A LOT and every time I did he would whisper 'can you stop yelling, you're really embarrassing me'."
"When I held the midwife's hand for comfort, he whispered 'let it go, enough le nam.'
People, both online and in the new mom's real life, have been urging her to break up with her insensitive boyfriend. Many people have considered his reactions as "red flags" for the parent-to-be.
She later wrote that when she confronted her boyfriend about going to couples therapy, he exploded and began yelling abuse at her and the baby. After that, she ended the relationship.
As Maya Angelou famously said, "When people tell you who they are, believe them the first time."
