Tory Lanez broke his silence after being sentenced to 10 years in prison for the 2020 shooting death of Megan Thee Stallion.
In a letter to his fans on Thursday, the rapper said he would always defend his innocence, adding: "I refuse to apologize for something I didn't do."
"I never let a hard time scare me. I will never let any prison eliminate me. No matter how they try to twist my words, I have always defended my innocence and always will,” he wrote.
"This week in court I took responsibility for all the verbal and intimate moments I had with the parties involved...that's it."
"In no way did I apologize for the charges for which I was wrongly convicted. I refuse to apologize for something I didn't do," he added.
In court, Megan testified that she had a conflict with Lanez about their previous sexual relationship. The argument escalated and after that, they started insulting each other's careers. She said she asked to be let out of the car, but that's when Lanez started shooting at the ground and yelling at her to jump.
The shooting happened in July 2020, as the rappers, Lanez's bodyguard and Megan's ex-girlfriend Kelsey Harris, left a party at Kylie Jenner's house.
The rapper's lawyers suggest that Harris may have shot her friend after discovering their previous relationship because she was "in love" with Tory and was jealous. Ms Harris denied this. However, in her testimony, she retracted earlier statements that Lanez was the shooter, but said she did not see who shot Megan.
In April, the "Savage" singer spoke about the incident in an essay for Elle. "As I reflect on the past three years, I see myself as a survivor because I have truly survived the unthinkable," Megan wrote at the time.
