The newest trend on TikTok refers to the selection of shoes and is increasingly gaining the support of users of the social network. The prime example for the "wrong shoe theory" is Kendall Jenner.

The theory was started by designer Allison Bornestein, who explains how shoes can help an outfit look more authentic, interesting and personalized. The viral video has amassed nearly 27 million hits so far, and Allison explains the concept of choosing the "wrong shoes" as an intentional option rather than a functional choice.

So if you decide to wear a pair of comfortable sneakers, the rest of the outfit, say a dress or a maxi skirt, may not look very combinable, but it makes the outfit more personalized. This makes the shoes look like a deliberate style choice.
The same goes for heels, which go really well with jeans.
"That's why theory is so important, because it gives personality to your look," Allison added.
Many people on TikTok praised the "wrong shoe theory" and some called it a "genius find".
