In the online trend, people film themselves jumping from speedboats into the water. As a result of this trend, 4 young people, in an attempt to become part of the trend, jumped from the ship they were sailing on, breaking their necks and dying on the spot.
The four deaths occurred in a period of 6 months, bringing numerous warnings from the coast guards and not only. The challenge has been circulating online since 2020, and despite calls and warnings, TikTok has not removed the videos of people who have tried the trend.
According to Gail Kulp, executive director of Sea Tow, people who try the trend can end up with multiple injuries, from breaking bones, necks, or colliding with the propeller of the boat in which the people trying it are.
"Hitting the water from a moving boat is like hitting concrete after being thrown from the top floors of a building," she added.
Although TikTok has put a warning caption on the "boat challenge" videos, people still haven't stopped trying the trend.
