Violent protests have erupted across France after police shot dead a 17-year-old boy.
The boy, identified only as Nahel, was shot dead after being stopped while driving on Tuesday, June 27, in the Paris suburb of Nanterre. Footage of the incident captured by a bystander showed two officers standing on the driver's side, one of whom fired a gun at Nahel, despite the fact that he did not appear to be in any immediate danger.

The officer said he fired the gun out of fear that the boy would hit someone with a car, according to Nanterre prosecutor Pascal Prache.
Despite calls from senior officials to give the justice system time to deal with the case, a significant number of people across France remain shocked and angry, particularly young black people who have been victims of police discrimination.
President Emmanuel Macron will meet with the leaders of both houses of parliament. Macron will also meet on Tuesday with the mayors of 220 cities. Thousands of people have been arrested.
