Multiple rescue teams are searching the Atlantic Ocean after a tourist submarine carrying people to see the wreck of the Titanic suddenly disappeared.
The submarine was delayed at around 9.13pm on Sunday. A Canadian coast guard ship and a military aircraft are helping to search, led by the US Coast Guard in Boston.
OceanGate Expeditions, which runs expeditions to see the wreck of the Titanic, confirmed the search for the five-person diver. David Concannon, an adviser to the company, said Oceangate lost contact with the submarine on Sunday morning. The submarine had 96 hours of oxygen supply.
The wreck of the Titanic lies 3,800 meters down at the bottom of the Atlantic. The ship sank in April 1912 after hitting an iceberg. Of the 2,200 people on board, only 706 survived.
In recent years, many divers have started taking tourists to visit the wreck. The Oceangate company is asking €250,000 per passenger.
