The upcoming movie "Barbie" directed by Greta Gerwig needed so much pink paint during the creation of scenes that it took the entire global supply of an entire company.
In an interview with Architectural Digest, the film's designer Sarah Greenwood talked about the construction of Barbieland, which is almost entirely fluorescent pink.
She said it had caused an international shortage of pink paint. "The world is out of pink," she told AD.
Lauren Proud, vice president of global marketing at Rosco, the used paint company, told the Los Angeles Times that the creation of the "Barbie" movie scenes had coincided with supply problems due to Covid and extreme weather in Texas.
In the interview with Architectural Digest, Gerwig said that the pink shade was necessary to maintain the element that has always identified the Barbie doll.
"Barbie," starring Margot Robbie as the famous doll and Ryan Gosling as Barbie's boyfriend Ken, will be released worldwide on July 21.
