Pearl, a chihuahua puppy, is shorter than a TV remote control and about the size of a banknote, Guinness World Records said.
Pearl qualified for the title after a veterinarian at Crystal Creek Animal Hospital in Orlando, Florida, measured her and determined that she stood less than 9.14 cm off the ground and was 12.7 cm long (from head to tail).
These dimensions mean that Pearl is small enough to fit in a pocket.
The owner of the dog, Vanesa Semler, took Pearl to the set of "Lo show dei record", the Italian talent show in collaboration with Guinness.
Pearl kept her composure in the face of applause from the audience, which impressed the crowd because chihuahua dogs are known for their temperament, sometimes somewhat aggressive.
