Gaza/ 82 Civil Defense employees have been killed by Israeli attacks
The Palestinian Civil Defense in Gaza has reported that 82 employees of the organization have been killed by Israeli attacks since the beginning of the war on October 7, 2023. Further, it added that another 270 employees have been injured and more than 75% of the centers are destroyed.
Based on these figures, it was said that countries are unable to protect the people who work to help Palestinians in Gaza every day. The organization accused countries and international organizations of remaining silent in the face of violations of international humanitarian rights by the Israeli occupation, indicating that 885 medical personnel have been killed and that they have stopped operations in 34 hospitals and health centers.
Russia/Ukraine continues the attacks
Ukraine continues attacks in the Kursk region. After a surprise attack that forced the evacuation of thousands of Russian residents, Ukraine has destroyed a strategic bridge, implying that Ukraine may be planning to cut off Russian supplies to the region as well as advance further militarily.
However, the Russian military still has access to smaller bridges in the area. The bridge was split in two after a Ukrainian attack, sparking fear and panic over Ukraine's surprise attacks. We recall that the Kursk attack was a very strategic finding, which surprised Moscow and caused the Russian army to retreat to the surrounding areas.
Italy/ A man kills his father and neighbor
A shocking event took place in Italy, where a man killed his disabled father, his neighbor, opened fire on the police and, in the end, tried to end his life. 50-year-old Ewald Kuhbacher killed his father, Herman, who was 90 years old.
The Italian police announced that the incident happened around 11:00 p.m. Neighbors reported hearing a fight and then smelling gas. Firefighters entered the building, where they also heard the shots of the 50-year-old. Immediately, the police came to the scene, to be confronted with shots from the 50-year-old. He fired at the fire engines and at the neighbor, who came out to see what was happening.
Philippines/ The first mpox case is detected
In the Philippines, the first case of the mpox virus has been detected, in a 33-year-old man who had not traveled abroad. The last mpox case was detected in December last year and according to the Department of Health (DOH), all previous cases have been isolated and treated.
"DOH will make the testing process as convenient as possible so that suspected cases are quickly identified and allowed to stay at home," said Teodoro Herbosa, department secretary.
Mpox has been declared a "public health emergency of international concern" by the WHO.
