Have you ever sprayed on your best perfume and a few hours later, you can't smell it anymore, even though you've been getting compliments on the scent all along? Well, according to experts, there's actually a reason why you can't smell your perfume.
Vicken Arslanian, re-founder of perfume brand Commodity explains why: “This is called 'blind nose', a phenomenon in which your nose stops detecting a scent.
"It occurs when the nose realizes that an odor is not threatening or poisonous and stops perceiving it. In addition to odor, it usually occurs in environments where we are for long periods of time, so 'nose blindness' can also happen with family, scents and pets," he explains to My Imperfect Life, adding, "you smell them at first — when you walk in the door, but after a while, the smell is 'gone'."
Once we get used to a smell and our body decides it's not threatening, it blocks it out, making our nose available for new smells and anything else that might come along.
So what can we do to avoid “nose blindness” to ensure we smell our favorite perfume notes for longer?
Experts recommend avoiding spraying the perfume on the front of the neck, but opt ??for the wrists and the area behind the ear. Be careful not to rub your knuckles together when applying perfume.
