Regardless of your skills in the kitchen, you probably want to be vigilant to understand the freshness of foods. If for packaged products we have the expiration date as a reference, for fruits and vegetables we may not understand when they are fresh and when they are not.
With the arrival of spring, you probably bought strawberries, blueberries or raspberries. How do you always know they are fresh and won't spoil a few hours after you buy them?
A video by @naptown_thrifts shows a neat trick that will change the way you shop. Just turn the fruit box upside down. If strawberries or other similar fruits stick to the bottom of the plastic box, do not buy them because they are not fresh and will likely lose their flavor very quickly.

If you're unlucky and can't turn the box upside down (perhaps because there's no lid), you can smell them. If they do not have the characteristic aroma, they are probably not fresh. Also look carefully for mold among the fruits. If so, don't buy them.
