Donald Trump has been charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records, becoming the first former US president to face a criminal trial.
He appeared in a Manhattan court where he denied all charges following his formal arrest earlier on Tuesday, April 4.
It is said that one of the key charges is the suspicion of payments in the form of bribes that were made to two porn stars, a few days before the presidential elections of 2016.
The 76-year-old said nothing as he left the courtroom after his arraignment.
The people involved were not named in the legal documents, but payments of up to $130,000 to Stormy Daniels (porn star) are said to be involved.
The second payment, of $150,000, was reportedly made to Karen McDougal, a former Playboy magazine star.
The former president is also the focus of three other investigations, related to attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 elections as well as to the attempt to falsify important documents after leaving the White House.
