Gwyneth Paltrow and Katy Perry got together to chat on The Goop Podcast.
What were they talking about? For children, mostly! Perry is raising her baby girl, Daisy, with partner Orlando Bloom. Bloom also has a son, Flynn, with Miranda Kerr.
Paltrow has Apple, 18, and Moses, 16, with ex-husband Chris Martin, plus two teenage children from her previous marriage to husband Brad Falchuk. Martin and Paltrow's divorce was finalized in 2016.
"It's hard on a relationship," Paltrow said. “For example, I've seen now, parents with young children and it just breaks the relationship…. It's really hard!”
Perry was quick to say that it is not impossible to have a healthy relationship and a child.
"I think if both people in the relationship are willing to do their work, then it's a lot easier," Perry said. "If a person thinks there's no work to do, then it's going to be really challenging."
Paltrow, on the other hand, added that "I have never felt more alone in my life after giving birth to my daughter, and I often feel alone in my life."
And the experts, what do they think about the statement?
Becoming a parent often puts a strain on relationships, no matter how they were before. Part of the problem is that parents are tired and have much less time to spend with their partner. It's certainly a challenge both as an individual and as a couple - however change doesn't have to be bad and statements like "kids ruin the relationship" are certainly exaggerated.
