Spain will be the first country in Europe to adopt this law on menstruation

Spanish lawmakers approved a new bill on Thursday that will give women who have very painful periods the opportunity to take a "menstrual leave". The bill will now go to the Senate.

The duration of the medical report for women suffering from painful periods has not yet been determined.

When this bill is finally approved, Spain will become the first country in Europe and one of the few in the world to integrate this measure into its legislation, following the example of Japan, Indonesia or Zambia.

However, the country's main trade unions are concerned that employers may not hire many women for fear of these absences.

Spain is a country that is considered a reference for women's rights. Spain's government has more women than men in its ranks.
