In recent weeks, Balenciaga has come under fire for its problematic marketing campaigns, which featured children carrying inappropriately dressed bears.
The fashion house has since apologized, pulled the ads, promised internal and external investigations and filed a $25 million lawsuit against the makers of one of the ads.
Recently, the artistic director of the brand, Demna Gram, has apologized publicly through a post on Instagram where he accepts the guilt for the choice made.
"I want to apologize personally for the wrong choice of concept for the campaign with children and I take full responsibility. It was inappropriate for children to promote objects that had nothing to do with them. Although I always want to provoke someone thinking with my choices and my work, I never intended to have as a subject child abuse, a phenomenon that I myself condemn. I need to learn from this, listen and interact with organizations that deal with the protection of children to see how I can contribute to this terrible cause. I apologize to anyone who was offended by the footage and Balenciaga is taking the appropriate measures to not only avoid such incidents in the future, but to take the responsibility we deserve in protection of minors in any way."- he writes.
