After a long public silence, Will Smith has returned to the moment that caused quite a stir at the Oscars 2022 - the slap he gave comedian Chris Rock after the comment the latter made about his wife.
During his first interview with "The Daily Show with Trevor Noah," the actor said he "lost it" and added that he understands very well those who are not yet ready to see his new film, "Emancipation."
Smith, who also won his first Oscar as "Best Actor" in the film "King Richard" and at the same ceremony, after the action that shocked Hollywood was banned for at least 10 years from attending the Academy Aards.
"It was a terrible night as you can imagine. There were many nuances and many things that got complicated, but at the end of the day I lost it," the actor addressed the moderator.
Without trying to justify his action, Smith said that strange things had happened to him during that night.
"I went through a lot that night. A lot! I didn't want to be who I became, I didn't want to. I know how shocking it was for a lot of people. Right in that scene. I was totally lost. My 9-year-old nephew who is the boy "The sweetest guy in the world stayed home late to see me and when we got home he told me why I hit that man. However, I have to forgive myself for being human," the movie star continued.
On the night of the Oscars, Rock was on stage presenting one of the awards and he made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's hair, who had lost her hair due to the disease she was suffering from. Smith, took the stage and slapped the comedian in the middle of it all. Although he apologized, his gesture was condemned and was accompanied by a lot of media uproar and opinion.
