John Legend is being completely honest about his relationship with Chrissy Teigen, his wife.
The "All of Me" singer, guest on Jay Shetty's podcast, revealed that at the beginning of his relationship with Chrissy, he was not the best man. "I think I was more selfish then. I wasn't a perfect partner at the beginning of our relationship."
"Even though I was very much in love with him and very excited to be with him, I was still selfish. I was in my mid-20s and I wasn't ready to commit like I am now," he said.
Legend shared that over time and working on himself, he managed to become the man he is today. "Once you realize that you really love someone and you want to make it work with that person, you become better partners," he said.
He said that when he stopped being selfish, he got the joy and satisfaction of love. According to him, this is the moment when you mature. "You need time to become the person you are going to be," he added.
John shared that when he first met his wife, they were very attracted to each other. "Our chemistry was great and that level of attraction is more like a passion at the beginning of a relationship," he explained.
"And love is able to stand the test of time, it must be deeper and truer than that (passion). We've been through enough together and it's made us stronger. These trials have made us grow together and understand things we didn't know about each other," he added.
One of the couple's most challenging moments was in 2020, when they lost their son, Jack. All their grief and pain, Legend expressed in the song "Pieces" and showed that it was one of the most important lessons they received, while experiencing the unimaginable anguish of losing a child.
"Like I said with Chrissy, I've seen so much growth through our grief and tragedy," Legend said.
Now, the couple is expecting another child, meanwhile they are also parents to Luna (6 years old) and Miles (4 years old). Legend and Teigen have expressed that the children have helped and inspired them in their journey and in dealing with the loss of Jack.
