A new blood test could reveal over 50 types of cancer
Recently, a new blood test has been discovered that manages to identify over 50 types of cancer and their place of origin in the body. However, the test still cannot replace common controls, as technology still needs to be improved.
The new blood test, presented at a Congress of the European Association of Oncology, recognizes tumor DNA and where they are found in the body. The test therefore shows not only whether the patient has cancer, but also his type.
Researchers tested about 6,000 people over the age of 50 for cancer. About one percent of blood tests were positive. Subsequent tests confirmed that one-third of those who resulted in positive had cancer indeed. Tumors in a total of 15 organs and other body tquestions were found in the test subjects.
