The Voice coach Camila Cabello thought her ex-boyfriend paid her a "visit" at work this week.
Contestant Tanner Howe chose to sing one of Mendes' hit songs, "Mercy."
While listening to her sing, Cabello wondered if Mendes was actually on stage and not a contestant.
"Is that… Is that Shawn?" she asked, adding, "I thought it was Shawn."
While Cabello didn't return her chair for Howe, fellow coaches Blake Shelton, Gen Stefani and John Legend did.
After the performance, Legend also agreed that Howe had a similar voice to Mendes, saying, "You sounded like him."
People found the moment cute, but there were also those who said the voices didn't sound alike and Camila just wanted to mention Shawn.
After Cabello complimented Howe's voice but gently criticized her for sounding too much like the pop star, Howe said he "respects" Mendes but wants to follow his own path without being a copycat.
"I was in his lane deep," Cabello joked about her relationship with Mendes.

Cabello and Mendes began dating in 2019, a few years after collaborating on the hit song "I Know What You Did Last Summer." They confirmed the relationship after releasing the song "Señorita".
On November 17, 2021, the two announced the split through a joint statement shared on their official Instagram accounts. Since the split, both Cabello and Mendes seem to still have respect and kindness for each other.
