Below you will find 10 situations that bring joy and comfort to all introverts. How many of them do you find yourself in?
1. Automatic doors, or doors that remain open. This may seem strange, but those who are overwhelmed with small social interactions will understand. Holding the door for the person behind you seems like a fairly routine action, but what happens when the person is too far away to hold the door without looking stupid, but also so close that you'd look rude if you closed it? These are common thoughts that float through the mind of an introvert.
2. Empty elevators. There is nothing more calming than an elevator closing with no one inside but you. No small talk to be had. No dilemma: Shall I talk about the weather? Compliment them on the perfume? I better pretend I have a lot of work on the phone...
3. An entire afternoon and evening without any plans. Introverts are excited at the thought of being home after work. Ah, a day without plans and without thinking "who will be there, how long will we stay, etc".
4. Online meetings (Zoom, Teams) instead of physical meetings. Superficial conversations can seem boring and trivial, and an online business meeting for example, has much less of these kinds of conversations. Perfect!
5. Rainy day . A worthy excuse to stay home without feeling guilty.
6. When you're in a boutique/store and the salespeople don't follow you around, or try to sell you something. Okay, maybe extroverts hate this too.
7. When someone texts instead of calls. These people have a special place in the heart of introverts. For those who say "we need to talk, call me when you have time" - we cannot say the same.
8. Dinner at a restaurant instead of someone's home. When you meet in a neutral location, it's easier to know when the activity is over, and therefore less difficult to leave. In someone's home, there is that compulsion to linger and talk after dinner that many introverts don't enjoy.
9. When you sneeze alone, without anyone saying "hi". Questions like "didn't I make too much noise?" or "What if no one says hello?" are normal for an introvert's mind.
10. When plans are cancelled. Ahh... that feeling of relief when you see the words: "We regret to inform you that unfortunately today's event has been cancelled."
