An emotional British couple have told of the letter sent by the Queen on their wedding anniversary. The letter was opened on their 60th wedding anniversary, which coincidentally coincided with the death of Queen Elizabeth.
Tricia and Ray Pont from Godalming, said they heard about the Queen's serious health condition and came out to celebrate their special day, where they also decided to open her letter.
The seniors said it was an "emotional day" and that they would "never forget it". All couples who reached 60 years of marriage received a congratulation from the monarch.
"I was so excited when I opened the letter. I thought of it as a very special moment for our family. What makes this letter even more precious is that we were the last people to receive a greeting from her before she left. After we heard the news, we saw the letter and we both started to cry," says the woman.
The note sent on behalf of Queen Elizabeth read:
"I am very happy to learn that you are celebrating your dear 60th anniversary on September 8, 2022. I send you my best wishes on this special date."
