Queen Elizabeth II has passed away at the age of 96, which brings immediate changes within the kingdom. In addition to Prince Charles immediately becoming King Charles, the titles of Prince William and Kate Middleton will change.
Prince William's title will change from Duke of Cambridge to Prince of Wales/Duke of Cornwall - titles his father held before he ascended the throne.
The title of Prince of Wales is traditionally given to the heir. In effect, the title "ceases to exist entirely" when the previous Prince of Wales becomes king, meaning that no one is now Prince of Wales until Charles manages to bestow the title on William. Meanwhile, the title Duke of Cornwall traditionally goes to the monarch's eldest son, which is obviously Prince William.
When Prince William becomes Prince of Wales, Kate Middleton will become Princess of Wales, a title last held by Princess Diana because Duchess Camilla chose not to use it out of respect.
Kate will also become the new Duchess of Cornwall, as well as Duchess of Rothesay (a Scottish title currently held by Camilla).
